Bella’s Story

I resisted writing about Bella because she is so difficult to describe. If Nia was my dog, and Trooper is my husband’s dog, then Bella is Trooper’s dog. He was delighted we brought him a puppy.

She was given to us full of fleas and anxiety. It took her two full years to gather up the courage to pee on a walk. Other training, on the other hand, was quick… Trooper took his duty seriously—he trained her to potty outside, to sit for treats, how to play, and how to snuggle. They quickly became intimately bonded.

She loves attention, giving kisses, and chasing squirrels, rabbits, birds, or anything else she can see. She seems to be somewhat farsighted and sometimes misses treats that are thrown directly toward her. She has the cutest freckle on her tongue. I thought she leaned her head sideways to drink water because her nose was so long until the vet explained her tongue is crooked. She’s easy to walk even though she does walk in cursive.
